The Debt Perception

At its core, BNPL is a debt-based product, which inherently carries psychological weight for the user. We needed to soften this by introducing a rewarding, positive reinforcement loop.

Users had no compelling reason to settle their installments ahead of schedule, which tied up company capital.

A Broken Gifting Market

The local market lacked a modern, flexible digital gifting option, representing a massive missed opportunity for organic user acquisition.

Strategic Discovery: Solving the "Single-Use" Trap

When researching the voucher market, a glaring user frustration emerged: standard gift vouchers universally force the recipient to spend the entire amount in a single, high-pressure transaction. Users hated this restriction.

The "Aha!" Moment

We realized a voucher shouldn't just be a static gift; it should be a gateway into our ecosystem. I designed the "Convert Voucher to Coins" feature. Instead of being forced into a single purchase, users could digitally convert their gifted voucher into "Mint Coins" giving them the ultimate freedom to split their gift across multiple purchases at any of our 2,500+ partner stores.

Navigating Product Trade-Offs

  • The Conflict: Naming the reward system "Mint Coins" raised a massive red flag during development. Stakeholders were deeply concerned that users would misunderstand the product, mistaking it for a volatile cryptocurrency or tradable digital money, rather than a closed-loop internal credit system.


  • The Pushback: While there was pressure to change the name or bury the feature, I argued that the branding was strong, but the onboarding needed to do the heavy lifting.


  • The Resolution: I proposed and executed an aggressive contextual education strategy. Instead of altering the business concept, I designed a frictionless onboarding flow featuring introductory screens, strategically placed info-icons with tooltips, and hyper-simplified UX copy. This ensured users instantly understood the mechanics of the closed-loop credit system within seconds, entirely mitigating the confusion risk.

The Solution & Execution

Robust Search & Filter Architecture

Carefully integrated the new Mint Coins UI into the existing app and web dashboards. Rather than feeling like a bolted-on afterthought, the rewards system became a natural extension of the core workflow, introducing a simple "Use Mint Coins" toggle directly at the checkout screen.

Designed a clean, intuitive voucher purchase and redemption flow across both mobile and web. By adapting the existing design system, I created a visually distinct but familiar aesthetic for the gifting journey.
